Collier Mosquito Control District Employees Honored by Industry Leaders
Industry leaders recently recognized two Collier Mosquito Control District (the District) employees for their accomplishments. At the 2025 Florida Mosquito Control Association (FMCA) annual meeting, Atom Rosales, director of technical development for the District, won the Cyrus R. Lesser Student Paper Competition and was awarded the T. Wainwright Miller scholarship. Jesvia Alvarado, human resources generalist for the District, was named the Human Resource Professional of the Year by SHRM Naples, the Collier County chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Rosales joined the District in 2022 as a laboratory technician and has progressively taken on new roles. As director of technical development, he oversees the District’s drone program along with its 3D printing and GIS efforts. In addition to his work at the District, he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in spatial data science at Penn State University. FMCA invited students pursuing degrees in fields related to arthropod control with an emphasis on Public Health to apply for these prestigious awards. Rosales was selected from a field of mosquito control professionals for both scholarships.
Alvarado joined the District as a temporary employee and was hired full-time as an office coordinator in 2018. She has served as HR generalist since 2024. SHRM Naples announced their Human Resource Professional of the Year at their annual holiday party earlier this month. The award recognizes human resource professionals who show exceptional support and dedication in making a positive impact on the employees at their organization. The award also spotlights excellence within the Southwest Florida human resource community and aims to foster engagement and celebrate leadership.
“It is an honor to work with talented people like Atom and Jesvia. At the District, we see the quality of their work every day, and it is fitting that their industry peers also recognize their achievements,” said Patrick Linn, MS, MSHAPI, executive director for the District. “These honors are very well deserved, and I offer Atom and Jesvia a big congratulations!”
